Time: Friday 14 July 2006, 13.45 – 17.30
Place: Room M 010,
Faculty of the Built Environment(THE RED CENTRE West Wing)
The University of New South Wales, SYDNEY, NSW 2052
Arranged by:The Woodmiles Forum and The Gifu Academy of Forest Science and Culture, UNSW
Background
Three years ago the Woodmiles Forum was launched in Japan. The Forum has developed the Woodmiles Indexes, which represent the transportation distances between the place where timber is harvested and the place where it is consumed. We have also disseminated information regarding the purpose and use of these indexes.
We intend to reduce transportation distances of timber and energy consumption during transportation, in addition to promoting the demand for local wood. We hope that this will ultimately contribute to the effective utilization of local resources and to our society’s transition into a sustainable one.
We believe that construction using local materials is not a local issue but global challenge. We are very happy to share the concept of Woodmiles with our Australian colleagues.
The seminar will be directed towards researchers, students, NGO personnel and those involved in construction business.
